Very nicely written. Thank you for this. The hatred of homeless people makes my heart ache.

You’re welcome and thank you for reading and taking the time to respond.

It’s a disease of ignorance that so many people see homeless as less than human. It disturbs me that society has manipulated so many people to putting a wedge between them and their compassion for the less fortunate

You are so correct. My children and I have been on both sides of the fence, having experienced homelessness and also having experienced shelter living and living with relatives. We are doing so much better now, but I remember how it felt to be looked down upon and treated as less than. How hurtful it was when we were in campgrounds in our old RV and people wouldn't let their kids play with ours. The shelter in Portland Oregon where we ended up for a short stretch, which was staffed largely by people who clearly despised the people who had to partake of their services was quite a slap to the face and an awful experience that will never leave my memory, and most likely the memory of at least my oldest child who was of an age too remember such things. People simply being warehoused and forgotten about. Consigned to the junk heap. It's hard to even accurately describe the despair inside those places. I hope for a better and more humane future for my grandchildren someday.

I’m glad you and your family are doing much better now and take solace in the fact you will break the cycle of looking down on people who are just doing their best to survive. I feel we are moving towards an age where people no longer excuse the actions of those putting profits over people and look for greater measures of accountability from those with the resources to truly change society for the better.
